Marker-Assisted Development of an Extra-Long Grain and High Yielding Basmati Rice Line with Semi-Erect and Dense Panicles

In light of the rapidly growing global population, there is an urgent need to develop high-yielding and climateresilient rice varieties. The productivity traditional basmati cultivars limiting due region-specific cultivation, genetic improvements are direly needed enhance their without compromising quality attributes. This study aimed high yielding advance line with good attributes through a marker-assisted selection approach. A cross was attempted between Basmati 515 IRBB 66, followed by pedigree up F5 generation. uniform recombinant inbred identified then backcrossed PK 1121 Aromatic again BC3F5 for desirable genotype development. Genes pyramiding aroma (BADEX7-5), dense erect panicles (DEP1), grain length (FMGS7) width (GW8-indel) were achieved using gene-linked markers. “BLB 18-5001”, predominately harbored agronomic characteristics 515, panicle architecture, dimension traits 66 Aromatic, respectively. BLB 18-5001 outperformed in thousandgrain weight (28.5 g), yield (4.7 t ha-1), average (9.22 mm), cooked (19.5 mm) compared parents. two-year field evaluation revealed superior 18-5001, suggesting unprecedented potential meet future varietal demands. concludes that has overcome negative correlation some extent expected serve as valuable breeding source improve growing
